Version 6, released April 2004
DocScan Pro has
been upgraded to version 6. Please note this is a major release of
DocScan Pro and the software has been enhanced to include many new features.
Remember DocScan Pro OCR comes with FREE life time maintenance so there is never a charge
for accepting a new release. Always ensure that your existing version is not running when you install the new version.
The new features in version 6 are
-
Improved repeat scanning capability
> Improved search facility that allows key words to be bookmarked against specific page numbers. When a search is performed the user is presented with the correct page for their search work rather that the first page of the document.
> Bates stamp included to uniquely identify a document.
> Capability to list all scanned documents in a batch as they are scanned.
> Documents can now be emailed to multiple email recipients.
> Option to confirm the file name at the end of each document scanned to ensure it is correct.
> Rapid viewing of each page scanned to confirm the scan is OK. The scan can be aborted if there are misaligned or missed pages.
> Many improvements to the substitution feature such as substitution against an exact match and flagging an empty zone or a zone containing an error.
> Operations can now be performed on zone results as follows:
- Picking out substrings, e.g. {Value(10)} will get the first 10 characters
- Processing lines in a multiline zone, e.g. {Zone1[2,4]} will get lines 2, 3 and 4
- {Zone1[2,4](7,8)} will get characters 7 and 8 from the string formed by lines 2, 3 and 4 from a multiline zone
> The content of a zone can now be saved to a file allowing you to 'crop' one paper page into one or more electronic pages.
> Multi line input zone permitted. This is useful for entry of memo text, comments and email text. Instructions can be provided to define what should be input into each line of text.
> Ability to always use a defined Twain source (scanner driver) so your scanning is not affected by other applications that load a different Twain source on your PC.
-
Improved OCR capability
> A mask can be applied to an OCR field or a data input field to define the type of characters e.g. letters and numbers. This can improve the accuracy of the OCR and data input.
> Improvements to the OCR to work with fax format tif files.
-
Increased scanning control
> Scanner settings can be changed when appending pages using Alt or Ctrl F10.
> A3 page size added to scan options.
> New Twain document capture engine to improve reliability with different scanners.
> FeederEnable and AutoFeed options added depending on the capability of the scanner.
> Improvements to detect correct paper size e.g. A4, legal, letter
> User options provided when there is a duplicate filename during scanning
> Reject color and grayscale scans from OCR as they do not give good results
-
Improvements to viewing and printing
> File history added with back and forward buttons.
> Faster loading of files with many pages using an option to remove the page thumbnail images.
> Invoke embedded Acrobat Reader for PDF viewing.
> Improved PDF scanning particularly the display after scan.
- Add ShowPDFafterScan .set file option
- ShowPDFafterScan=0 don't show PDFs after scan (default)
- ShowPDFafterScan=1 Show PDFs after scan
> Feature added to print marked pages only.
-
Increased annotations
> Images such as company logos can be annotated onto scanned documents.
-
Increased application programming interface
> Increased control of DocScan Pro OCR from your own application.
> /O command line switch to OCR and save to a text file from the command line.
> /F command line now auto displays the first doc found.
> /N command line to rename an existing document.
> /W command line to copy the image into Microsoft Word.
> /L= command line switch to allow the user to specify an index entry in the log file. Works the same as /I= in all other respects.
> Run the Edit, Process selected documents with template... from the command line if only a file name and /t=template.tem are given:-
- "C:\Program Files\..\DocScan.exe" "C:\My Scanned Documents\Document.tif /t=test /f"
> Allow template processing from the command line (and menu) to convert to PDF keeping the original file name.

copy.
The bug fixes in version 3.2 are:

sometimes omitted.
2) Number sequencing - the number sequence, used to automatically name
documents, sometimes reused or skipped a number.
3) Screen splitters - action improved to provide smooth visual movement.

been corrected.

improved.
Version 3.1, released 11th April 2000
DocScan Pro has
been upgraded to version 3.1. Please note this is a minor release of DocScan
Pro caused mainly by telephone number changes in the UK. However, there are two
bug fixes included and therefore it is worth upgrading your installations.
The bug fixes in version 3.1 are:
1) Favorite Folders - this now correctly locates the required folder.
2) Find - the Find mechanism has been made case insensitive.
Version 3.0, released 10th February 2000
DocScan Pro has
been upgraded to version 3.0. Please note this is a major release of DocScan
Pro and the software has been enhanced significantly, particularly in respect
of batch scanning tasks.
The new
features in version 3.0 are
- Document
templates - create templates that save scanning settings and allow you to repeat all your repetitive scanning tasks with ease. Templates consist of one or more zones which can be used to detect features of your document pages and instruct DocScan Pro to take action automatically during the scanning process. In brief, the template zones provide the following:
> Increased control over document naming and sequence number generation.
> Specification of the image file format.
> Improved flexibility in detecting the start of a new document in a batch.
> Automatic rotation to landscape in both clockwise and anti-clockwise
directions.
> Automatic document indexing using barcodes and OCR text.
- Web
publishing - scan directly to the popular PDF file format and publish your documents on your Intranet or onto your Web site on the Internet. Convert existing document image files to PDF format with a single click.
- Combine
documents - select many single or multiple page document image files and
combine them into one multiple page document. You can control whether the
original documents are copied or moved to the new document. You can also
determine in what format the new document should be saved. For example, you
could combine a number of image files into a single PDF document for publishing on the Internet.
- Choose your
own language - select your own language from the language menu. If there is no translation then check on our Web site using the link at the top of this page to see if there is a new language translation for your language. If not then you can simply create your own!
To help us build a full set of language translations we will offer you a 25%
discount off your purchase if you send your newly translated and complete
language file to us and you are the first to do so for your language. See the DocScan Pro User Manual for details.
- Document
description - embed a long document description or set of keywords into
your scanned documents. The document description can be viewed and also used by the search mechanism to speed up document searches. Document key words can be obtained automatically using the barcode and OCR indexing features.
- Photocopy
- use DocScan Pro as a photocopier by scanning directly to your printer.
- Print pages
in reverse order - keep the pages in the correct order when you print if
your printer tends to reverse the order.
- Document
tags - apply tags to a document to store information such as the author,
date scanned and scanner used.
- NT problems
- some users had experienced problems using DocScan Pro with Windows NT. These problems were associated with running DocScan Pro as a user rather than as an administrator and have been fixed.
